2011-2012 Begins with Oct 9th Red Barn Festival


On October 2nd over forty hopefuls came out for the Stanford Equestrian Team's open tryouts. After three hours of riding over fences, doing patterns, and navigating the dressage arena, the Team added 12 freshmen, 1 sophomore, 1 junior and 2 graduate students to the roster. The new riders hail from around the world from Los Gatos, CA to Penang, Malaysia. For a full roster, click here.

Riders both old and new will be on hand this Sunday, October 9th at the annual Red Barn Festival. The largest fundraiser for the Stanford Equestrian Team and Stanford Student Equestrian Programs, the Festival highlights include the Student/Alumni Challenge, a wine tasting and silent auction, as well as the featured show jumping competition. The Stanford Invitational is a Prix de Nations format with team of riders competing in the 5-Bar, Relay and Accumulator. Individual riders and teams compete for some of the $5,000 purse as well as prizes and gifts from Antares, Paddock Cakes, Carousel Saddlery, Adequan, Kristen Hickey's Heavenly Hands, See's Chocolates, Pfizer, Monique's Chocolates, Bayer, Merial, Boehringer Ingelheim, and Dolce Dream Cake Company.

Last year's event raised over $60,000 for the student equestrians with the inaugural Bill Lane Memorial Trophy won by the Stanford Equestrian Alumni Team, the invitational victory claimed by Blackstone Farm, and premium wines poured by The Council, August West, Dark Horse, Thomas Fogarty after Pimm's Cups from Pound Cottage Farm.
