Tricolors at Davis for English and Western

Freshman Jasmine Li wins Walk-Trot at UC Davis

Saturday: Hunt Seat Equitation

The Cardinal left Davis as the High Point Team, having weathered some tough draws with perserverence, sportsmanship, and aplomb. Emily Cohodes, only a sophomore, continued to prove herself a pillar of the team, coming home with Reserve High Point Rider honors after punching in two workmanlike rounds in Open Flat and Open Fences. Other standout performances include second place finishes from Sarah Jacobson and Alison Smith in their flat classes. It was the riders in the Walk Trot division who secured the win for the Cardinal, with freshman Jasmine Li taking the class and Stanford's pinch hitter, Andrew Dargie, earning third. Altogether, eleven riders took ribbons in their classes in a true display of a whole team effort.

Sunday: Western Reining and Horsemanship

Freshmen led Stanford's way to Reserve Champion High Point Team on Sunday. Laura Benard continued her consistent show ring performances to earn first in Advanced, and Kellsey Beal won in her show ring debut for the Cardinal, taking home blue in Walk/Jog. Also of note was the performance of another newcomer: Julia Ishiyama earned third place in Intermediate just one week after joining the Stanford Equestrian Team. Altogether, each of the Stanford riders who went down to UC Davis on Sunday brought home a ribbon in another demonstration of teamwork.

Stanford competes next at home, when the region's hunt seat teams come to the Stanford Red Barn on February 5 and 6.
