Stanford Wins at UC Davis

The Stanford hunt seat team traveled to UC Davis on Saturday, February 4th and, after a hard-fought battle, bested the field of nine teams to take the high-point team championship with a score of 33 (28 Cal Poly, 24 UC Berkeley, 22 UC Davis). Senior Justine Thomas (above) came away with reserve high point rider after finishing 2nd in both Intermediate Flat and Intermediate Fences. Thomas's round in Intermediate Fences was her first-ever in the division, after she qualified for Regionals in Novice Fences last weekend at Berkeley.

Boosting Stanford's lead, sophomore Sarah Jacobson took her third blue ribbon of the year in Walk Trot Canter. Freshman Erin Gray also came through for the Cardinal, winning her first IHSA class in Novice Flat (in addition to her 4th in Novice Fences). The day saw a mini-succession of red ribbons as well, from senior Rachel Kolb in her first showing in Open Flat (after qualifying for Regionals in Intermediate Flat) and by freshman Wei Ling Heng in Walk-Trot in her third showing of the season.

Stanford had a triplicate of thirds from freshman Claire Margolis in Open Fences, senior Alyssa Baldocchi in Novice Flat, as well as junior Gladys Delgadillo, who earned her third 3rd of the year in Walk Trot. Junior Alison Smith took 4th in Intermediate Fences in her first trip back in the show ring since spending fall quarter studying abroad in Madrid, Spain. Rounding out the day, sophomore Morgan Abbett finished with a 6th in Novice Fences and freshman Victoria Sienczewski took reserve in Walk-Trot.

Stanford now looks ahead to wrapping up the regular season with a pair of hunt seat shows at home this coming Saturday and Sunday, February 11 and 12.
