A Weekend for the Kids at the Red Barn

The Canyon Heights Pony Club at the Red Barn

The Stanford Red Barn and the Stanford Equestrian Team hosted several groups of young equestrians over the weekend of February 26 and 27.

The Canyon Heights Pony Club traveled to Stanford to tour the equestrian facilities with the Stanford Equestrian Team. The United States Pony Club is a nationwide organization whose mission is "to provide a program for youth that teaches riding, mounted sports, and the care of horses and ponies, thereby developing responsibility, moral judgment, leadership and self-confidence." The Canyon Heights branch is made up of young horse lovers from around the East Bay, and is run entirely by parent volunteers and others interested in the promotion of good horsemanship.

The team also hosted a Interscholastic Equestrian Association hunt seat equitation horse show over the weekend. Seven California teams came to Stanford over the weekend to compete in their penultimate regular season show. The IEA provides students in grades 6 through 12 the opportunity to compete for their schools in a safe, positive environment. Like the IHSA, the governing body of intercollegiate competition, the IEA enables riders of all levels and experience to show and to grow as horsemen and horsewomen.

The Stanford Equestrian Team is thrilled to be able to play a part in the development of the next generation of horse lovers.
